Quarantine Surveillances
Quarantine are still conducting random surveillances in the month of March. Clients will be notified if one of their containers is targeted by Quarantine for a random on-site inspection at time of unpack. Quarantine are checking for incorrectly declared packing materials and commodity types. If you have any queries regarding this please contact Maurie Jones on 1300 186 629.

MSC Sandra Delay
The MSC Sandra is due to arrive into port this evening (17th March), but due to problems with congestion and her mistimed arrival, the terminal at this stage is not planning to begin unloading her until late on the 22nd March. We realise that many clients have urgent cargo on this vessel and are looking to assist where possible. Please contact us if you have any queries on this delay.

Lines announce GRI
Shipping lines servicing the Asia to Australia trade lanes are announcing a GRI (General Rate Increase) to be applied from the 15th April. The quantum is said to be around USD250 per teu at this stage, but will no doubt be revised closer to the date. If you have any queries about how this will effect you please contact us on 1300 1 TOMAX.

CBFCA Warns of Potential Increases
The CBFCA (Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia) has moved to warn importers and brokers of the possibility of increases coming from Australian Customs and Quarantine. The economic downturn is expected to place further pressure on the Government in relation to revenue raising and they may seek to raise charges accordingly. We will keep you advised of any announcements.

Your account with Tomax Logistics
Whilst it is understood that everyone is facing cash flow issues currently, it is VITAL that you endeavour to get your account with us up to date. As your forwarder/broker we are responsible for paying out charges on your behalf to other parties. About 90% of the money currently owed to us is paid out by us prior to cargo release to you, and the longer that goes outstanding the harder it is for us to arrange more payments on your or other clients behalf. Please work with us to get your account in hand by contacting your account manager with any queries. To those clients who assist with regular on time payments we sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Staff Milestones
Congratulations to Chris Swain and Paul Chow who have both just completed their first year here at Tomax Logistics. Chris Swain works in documentation and customer service and is a comic fanatic as well as a infomaniac specialising in Quiz Night trophies. Paul Chow works in interstate freight deliveries, practices the ancient art of Kendo and would like to be a Customs Broker one day. Thanks for your good work Chris and Paul.

The Lighter Side
Due to popular demand the lighter side returns this month.
It appears that the complaints from the U.S. Marines regarding the quality of new recruits has finally been addressed. Government research proved that the deployment of squirrels in targeting the enemy was far more effective than billion dollar laser guided missile systems. So, G.I. Rocky (seen below) has been shipped off to Baghdad.
